PECOAT® Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) material features high transparency, with anti-hydrolysis stability and special UV protection performance. It has excellent encapsulation performance and can be used for the molding of transparent injection products with a wall thickness of up to 6mm, with good precision control.

As the name suggests, TPU overmolding is the process of overmolding TPU pellets onto other materials. The general processing methods for TPU overmolding are one-time molding with a two-color injection molding machine, or two-stage injection molding with an overmolding mold using a regular injection molding machine.   Overmolding is one of the most important molding methods or applications for TPU. Through overmolding, various functional characteristics of TPU materials can be fully demonstrated, such as soft touch (such as handle equipment), slip resistance (wheel, cup mat, non-slip mat, foot pad), sound, mouse, digital equipment, electronic instruments, and other special functions (such as foldable kitchen utensils and daily necessities), etc.   There are two different overmolding mechanisms, commonly known as true overmolding and false overmolding, depending on the overmolding structure of different products and the desired overmolding effect. Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer is a new type of polymer material between rubber and resin, which is known as the fifth emerging material. It can not only replace some rubber, but also modify plastics to achieve corresponding functions. It is widely used in the rubber industry to manufacture various industrial products and equipment components such as seals, shock absorbers, rubber hoses, rubber tapes, rubber strips, rubber plates, rubber parts, and adhesives. At the same time, thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer can also replace rubber in large quantities for modification of general thermoplastic resins such as PVC, PE, PP, PS, and even engineering plastics such as PU, PA, and CA, which has created a new situation in the plastics industry and has new material characteristics.

Application of TPU in the automotive industry and automotive components:

• Automotive dust covers: Automotive dust covers produced with TPU have better mechanical performance and oil resistance compared to traditional rubber dust covers. Therefore, they have been widely used by many automotive manufacturers.
• Automotive wire harnesses: Automotive wire harness products produced with TPU have extremely high mechanical performance, excellent oil resistance, and good heat resistance.
• Automotive seals: Automotive seals and gaskets produced with TPU have excellent mechanical performance, as well as good heat resistance and oil resistance.
• Automotive anti-skid chains: TPU film has better wear resistance than many other common polymers, with a wear resistance of more than five times that of natural rubber. Therefore, TPU material can be given priority in product selection.
