What is Polytetrafluoroethylene Micro Powder?
Polytetrafluoroethylene Micro Powder, also known as low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene micro powder, polytetrafluoroethylene ultrafine powder, and polytetrafluoroethylene wax, is a white powdery resin obtained by polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene in a dispersed liquid, followed by condensation, washing, and drying to produce a low molecular weight free-flowing powder.
Introduction
Polytetrafluoroethylene micropowder, also known as low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene micro powder or polytetrafluoroethylene ultrafine powder or polytetrafluoroethylene wax, is a white powdery resin obtained by polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene in a dispersed liquid, followed by condensation, washing, and drying. It has excellent properties such as heat resistance, weather resistance, cold resistance, low friction, non-stickiness, chemical stability, and electrical insulation. Additionally, due to its small average particle size, it has good dispersibility and is easy to blend uniformly with other materials. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) ultrafine micro powder is a white low molecular weight free-flowing powder with stable molecular structure consisting of -(-CF2-CF2-)n, which has excellent chemical resistance, thermal stability, high weathering resistance (more than ten years), UV resistance, high temperature resistance (long-term application temperature is around 260°C), wide temperature range (-200 to +260°C), good non-stick properties, high electrical insulation (1017Ωcm), high flame retardancy, and excellent self-lubricating properties.
Unique properties
PTFE micro powder products have a purity of 100%, a molecular weight of less than 10,000, and a particle size in the range of 0.5-15μm. They not only maintain all the excellent properties of polytetrafluoroethylene but also have many unique properties, such as no self-agglomeration, no static electricity effect, good solubility, low molecular weight, good dispersibility, high self-lubrication, and significant reduction in friction coefficient.
Applications of Polytetrafluoroethylene Micro Powder
Polytetrafluoroethylene micropowder can be used as a solid lubricant alone or as an additive for plastics, rubber, coatings, inks, lubricating oils, and greases. When mixed with plastics or rubber, various typical powder processing methods such as blending can be used, and the addition amount is 5-20%. Adding polytetrafluoroethylene micro powder to oil and grease can reduce the friction coefficient, and just a few percent can increase the life of the lubricating oil. Its organic solvent dispersion can also be used as a release agent.
