Tag: TPU Modified
TPU has advantages such as good mechanical strength, wear resistance, oil resistance, low temperature resistance, and high elasticity. Additionally, the raw materials used in TPU production are environmentally friendly, making it widely used in various fields. However, with the development of social demand, traditional TPU materials can no longer meet the needs of production and life. Therefore, it is necessary to modify TPU to improve its shortcomings, such as heat resistance, aging resistance, flame retardancy, and antistatic properties.
Brief Introduction of TPU
TPU is a polymer synthetic material that has both rubber elasticity and plastic rigidity. It is usually made of polyol compounds, diisocyanates, chain extenders, and a small amount of additives through polyaddition reactions to form a block copolymer composed of soft and hard segments. The structure, proportion, hydrogen bonding ability, and crystallization performance of the soft and hard segments in the macromolecule determine all the characteristics of TPU, such as elasticity, strength, elongation, water resistance, wear resistance, and high and low temperature performance.
TPU Blend Modification
TPU can be modified by blending with other polymers to synthesize the performance advantages of each polymer component, making up for the performance defects and shortcomings of any single component. TPU is relatively expensive, but by blending with other materials, the raw material cost can be reduced without affecting the overall performance, thereby improving economic benefits. Common resins blended with TPU include POM, PA, PP, PVC, ABS, etc. TPU materials have the advantages of high elasticity, high strength, and high modulus, and are often used as toughening modifiers for other polymers during blending.
Antistatic TPU Modified
TPU is also a type of plastic with good electrical insulation. During use, it is easy to generate static electricity due to friction, which can have adverse effects on product processing and production use. Therefore, it is necessary to modify TPU to be antistatic and produce TPU products with antistatic properties. Common antistatic agents include DE-8A, carbon nanotubes, and conductive carbon black.
Flame Retardant TPU modified
TPU has flammability and a limiting oxygen index between 18-20%. Once ignited, it will produce toxic gases and a large amount of smoke, accompanied by serious melting and dripping, which can easily cause secondary ignition and greater losses. Currently, commonly used additive flame retardants include halogen flame retardants, phosphorus-based flame retardants, nitrogen-based flame retardants, expansion flame retardants, synergistic flame retardants, etc. There are two main ways to improve the flame retardancy of TPU. One is to synthesize reactive flame retardants by grafting flame retardant elements into the hard and soft segments of TPU molecular chains, making TPU itself flame retardant. The other is to use blending method to uniformly mix the additive flame retardant with TPU matrix, making TPU composite materials with good flame retardancy.
