Difference Between LLDPE and LDPE

Difference between linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE)

1. Definition

Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) are both plastic materials derived from ethylene as the primary raw material. However, they differ in terms of structure; LLDPE is prepared using a single catalyst technology, resulting in a linear structure and higher density, whereas LDPE possesses an irregular chain structure with lower density.

2. Physical properties

LLDPE exhibits distinct differences in terms of density and melting point compared to LDPE. The typical density range for LLDPE is between 0.916-0.940g/cm3, with a melting point range of 122-128℃. Additionally, LLDPE demonstrates superior strength and heat resistance characteristics.

On the other hand, LDPE typically has a density ranging from 0.910 to 0.940g/cm3 and a melting point range of 105-115℃ while offering high flexibility and toughness.

3. Processing methods

During production, LDPE can be processed through blow molding or extrusion techniques to create various containers and packaging materials such as films and bags. In contrast, due to its higher load carrying capacity and mechanical strength, LLDPE is more suitable for extruding tubes and films.

4.Application fields

Due to their differing physical properties and processing methods, LLDPE and LDPE find applications in different fields. LLDPE is well-suited for producing high-quality films/tubes used in manufacturing packaging materials like agricultural coverings, waterproof films as well as wires/cables. Conversely, LDPE finds greater suitability in the manufacture of soft products including plugs toys water pipes containers along with packaging materials.

Overall, Although both LLDPand LPDE belong to the category of polyethylene plastics, they exhibit significant distinctions not only regarding physical properties, processing methods but also application fields。Therefore, when selecting materials it becomes essentialto choose based on specific needsand requirements.
